Shortened Transcript
In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker faces massive consequences after his identity is revealed. In a desperate attempt to fix it, he goes to Dr. Strange—but things spiral out of control. As chaos unfolds, Peter tries to “fix” the villains, driven by guilt and a desire to do good. But it doesn’t go as planned, and Aunt May dies after telling him the classic line: “With great power comes great responsibility.” Peter is left to make a major sacrifice—choosing to be forgotten by everyone he loves.
This connects to Luke 14:25-30, where Jesus warns that following Him isn’t easy. He challenges us to count the cost before becoming His disciple. It means putting Him above even the people we love. It’s not about being cruel—it’s about staying focused on a calling that requires everything.
Just like Peter struggles with his goal and makes emotional decisions, we too can lose focus on our purpose. Jesus asks us to be all in, fully committed, and willing to make tough choices. Are we building a strong tower—or starting something we won’t finish?

Activity
Tower Building Challenge (Youth-Friendly Game)
Supplies: Blocks (like Jenga), paper, pens
Instructions: Each person writes down what might distract them from following Jesus (e.g., fear, relationships, hobbies). Stack the blocks while naming each distraction out loud. See how high the tower can go before it falls.
Debrief: Talk about how distractions, even good things, can cause us to lose focus. What would it take to build a strong foundation?
After Questions
What did your tower look like? What made it shaky or strong?
What can you do this week to stay focused on following Jesus?
Who is someone in your life that helps you keep your focus on your faith?
Spiritual Practice
Focus Prayer Take 5 minutes of silence. Ask God to show you one area of your life where you need more focus. Write it down. Pray each day this week asking for strength to keep Jesus first in that area.
Closing Prayer
Conclude with a prayer that acknowledges the Holy Spirit's presence and asks for continued guidance and protection in the journey of faith.
Sample Prayer:
Lord, help us to count the cost and stay focused on You. When distractions come—whether they’re temptations or even the people we love—help us to remember our calling. Thank You for the grace to try again when we fail, and for walking with us every step of the way. Amen.
Notes From The Nerd Pastor:
I was clearly on one when I wrote this script. Watching it again now, and it’s pretty hilarious. This was a good movie with some really great questions worth considering. Plus, it’s a Marvel flick, so it can be assumed that everyone is familiar.
